Zinedine Zidane has given Manchester United a list of four players he wants to bring to Old Trafford, according to sensational reports on Sunday. The Frenchman, who led Real Madrid to three successive Champions League trophies, has been strongly linked with the Old Trafford hotseat should the club decide to part company with Jose Mourinho. The United boss eased the pressure on himself with a 2-0 win at Burnley last time out, but his antics continue to bemuse, despite the support of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
But according to reports, Zidane is ‘preparing himself’ to take charge at Old Trafford and is said to be ‘expecting the call’ from the club. As such, the Sunday Mirror reports that Zidane has compiled a shortlist of players he would like to bring to Old Trafford to help him turn around the club’s fortunes. They claim Zidane wants to bring Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos, Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara, James Rodriguez – currently on loan at Bayern from Real Madrid – and Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani to the club as part of a £300million squad overhaul.
United have been linked with Kroos and James at regular intervals in the past, but the names of Thiago and Cavani present fresh links for the club. And the paper adds that managing in the Premier League has always been a dream of Zidane’s and that he’d love to do so at such an establishment as Manchester United.
It’s claimed United are well aware that Zidane won’t remain a free agent forever and could act if the club fails to make progress from their Champions League group. The Red Devils were handed a tricky set of fixtures with Juventus, Valencia and Young Boys drawn alongside them in Group H.
