SERAP queries Buhari over $1billion fund

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has queried President Muhammadu Buhari over his decision to withdraw $1 billion from the excess crude account to fight a defeated Boko Haram.

In a statement on Sunday the organisation urged the president to “urgently explain to Nigerians why the government decided to withdraw $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account to fight Boko Haram insurgency in the North East, if his government is to avoid the intense secrecy and lack of accountability and oversight of the spending on Boko Haram that characterised the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.”

The money was approved by the governors during a meeting last Friday of the National Economic Council (NEC) presided over by Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
