Ronaldinho officially announces his retirement from football

Ronaldinho has officially announced his retirement from football. The Brazilian was without a club for nearly three years, and revealed in December that 2018 would be the year he officially retired. The 2002 World Cup winner wants to spend time focusing on his football schools and pursue a career in music. His brother and agent, Roberto de Assis Moreira, confirmed the news on Tuesday night. His last professional club was Brazilian club Fluminese – although the 37-year-old left just three months into his contract. Ronaldinho started his career with Gremio before earning a move to Europe with Paris Saint-Germain in 2001.

It wasn’t long before his talent became evident and a bigger move beckoned for the superstar after his heroics helped Brazil lift their fifth ever World Cup in 2002. Although he came close to signing for Manchester United , it was Barcelona who snapped him up in 2003. The forward dazzled at the Camp Nou, scoring 97 goals for the club as he helped them to two consecutive league titles in 2005 and 2006 – as well as the Champions League in 2006. It was a great period personally for Ronaldinho as well as he won the FIFA World Player of the Year Award two years running in 2004 and 2005.
