The governor of Delta state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, at the weekend disclosed that he is the only governor among his colleagues across the country who enjoys the support of his predecessors. He stated this at a thanksgiving and grand reception organised by Olorogun John Oguma, a chieftain of the PDP, in honour of Chief James Ibori at the Ibru Unity Square, Ovwor-Olomu, in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta state.
The governor said, “I’m the only governor who had the support of the first and second governors. That was because there was good following that has continued to beget following. I understand our leader (Ibori) because he trained us well as politicians. I have learnt the game from him so well. I am happy that we recognised our leader (Ibori) as a good man’’.
Recall that the governor of Kano state, Umar Ganduje, had while disclosing what is responsible for his quarrel with the immediate past governor, Musa Kwankwaso, said, “Yes, we were very, very close, even before 1999, we have been friends… like I said, I started seeing some elements of undercuts from his body language, and then he started attacking my administration. First, even before handing-over, he said he has paid all the contractors in Kano, but the contractors went to radio stations and said he was telling lies. You could see that he was trying to heat up the system even before handing-over.”
Similarly, former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi had confirmed that he has problems with his successor, Willie Obiano and has good reasons to fight him on account of the incumbent’s non-performance as governor.
