Other African countries showed on the screen by the Facebook team includes Kenya with a 9.9 million active monthly Facebook users and 4.7 active daily users. While South Africa has 28 million monthly active users, 16 million are daily active users.
What you should know: Between May 2018 till presently, Facebook users in Nigeria has grown by about 7 million as Facebook was said to have had 26 million active users in Nigeria as at then.
This comes as no surprise as there has been huge increase in the number of internet users in Nigeria. The latest statistics released by the Internet World Stats revealed that the country now ranks 7th in terms of countries with the highest number of internet users in the world.
According to the report, Nigeria’s total internet users stood at 111.6 million as at the end of March 2019. It was further revealed that among the top 20 countries in the world, Nigeria’s internet users grew the highest by 55,716% in the last 19 years.
Meanwhile, Facebook’s data have not been generally accepted still as reports have it that the social media platform also counted people who didn’t access the platform itself but shared content or activity via third-party apps or login-integrated websites which is not supposed to be.
However, since Facebook’s data and the Internet World Stats reveals increased usage of online activity among Nigerians, it is clear that more Nigerians now have access to the internet and the only stumbling block on ground is the internet speed in the country as it still ranks one of the slowest in the world.
