Anti-Ed Woodward sentiment reached an all-time high on Sunday afternoon as Manchester United fans flew a banner calling the club’s executive vice-chairman a ‘specialist in failure’ before the Premier League match against Burnley. United visited Turf Moor on the back of two successive defeats, making this their worst start to a season since the inaugural Premier League campaign of 1992/93.
Though Jose Mourinho has faced public criticism for United’s poor form, the Old Trafford club’s fans have rallied around the Portuguese, with their anger directed at Woodward. Woodward, 46, has been accused of failing to support his manager in the transfer market, with just three new players bought over the summer.
Despite Mourinho pushing to bring a new central defender to United for a number of months, United only managed to purchase Lee Grant, the goalkeeper, teenage full-back Diogo Dalot, and Brazil midfielder Fred before the transfer window closed in August.
