It’s official, “Game of Thrones ” will not return until 2019. After long speculation about the air date of the eighth and final season of the hit medieval drama, HBO has finally confirmed that the show is taking a year off and will return with the new season next year. It’s still unclear at what point in 2019 the final season of “Game of Thrones” will air. The series’ star Sophie Turner had previously said that the highly-anticipated new season of the fantasy series would come out in 2019.
Filming on the upcoming season began in October last year and will continue until mid-2018. “We’re filming right up until the summer,” star Liam Cunningham, who plays Ser Davos Seaworth, said in early October.
While the eighth season will have 6 episodes only, it will have longer episodes. Cunningham seemingly confirmed previous reports which said that each episode would be in the neighborhood of 90 minutes. He said, “When you think about it, up until last season we’d have six months to do ten episodes, so we’re [doing] way more than that for six episodes. So that obviously will translate into longer episodes.”
