Arsenal are to make a £25million move for Croatia star Domagoj Vida, according to reports. Vida, the centre-back, caught the eye at this summer’s World Cup as he helped his nation finish runners-up in Russia. Currently playing for Besiktas, Vida established himself as a fine defender during a five-year spell with Dynamo Kyiv of the Ukraine.
He only moved to Turkey in January, and less than seven months later the 29-year-old could be moving on. According to the Sun, Unai Emery, the Arsenal manager, is plotting a £25million move for the centre-back, but only if Shkodran Mustafi or Danny Welbeck are sold before Thursday’s transfer deadline to free up funds.
Emery is said to not be impressed by Arsenal’s defence with less than a week to go before the Premier League season kicks off, despite having already added full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner and central defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos to his squad this summer.
Vida has been identified as the player to further strengthen Emery’s back line, and the player is reportedly keen on securing a move to England.
