BUA reacts to arrest of its staff by Edo governor, Obaseki

BUA International Limited has reacted to the arrest of its staff by the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki. The Mining Company disclosed that Obaseki in company of some security operatives had stormed its site in Obu-Okpella area of the state in a “gestapo style” and forcefully shut down the mine, whisking away its staff members. In a statement by O’tega Ogra on behalf of its management, BUA International Limited said the affected employees were invited to receive the governor on the site before they were “taken away for no just reason.”

Following the shutting down of its mining site by Obaseki, the company said it had instructed its lawyers to report “back to the courts on this latest developments and pursue all legal channels to enforce its rights.” It reminded the state government of a subsisting order from the Federal High Court sitting in Benin that it should continue work while the matter involving it and Dangote Group of Companies is pending.
