Last week, the city of Lagos was fired up with the hosting of the 2019 Lagos International Polo Tournament. The event had GTBank and BUA Group as the main sponsors.
Taking to their official Instagram page, BUA Group shared several pictures from the event, some of which depicted their Founder, Abdul Samad Rabiu, enjoying the game. they said they are “proud to be a gold sponsor of the 2019 Lagos International Polo Tournament”.
GTBank was also present – The tire-1 bank, which has been at the forefront of supporting Polo, had earlier informed enthusiasts to anticipate the best of the 2019 tournament.
“some of the most renowned indigenous and international polo teams are set to converge in lagos, nigeria to compete for highly coveted trophies in the 2019 lagos int’l polo tournament.”
Other sponsors of the tournament – Among other sponsors of the just concluded Polo tournament are: Shell Nigeria (silver sponsor), SAF, Bell Oil and Gas, Petrolex, Chapel Hill Denham, Wapic Insurance, Metrocapital, and Aribico.
The Lagos International Polo Tournament – The Polo Club was founded in 1904 in Lagos state,introduced by British Naval officer and was played on an airstrip that was shared between the Lagos Polo club and the Ikoyi club.
Over the years, the Polo club has hosted tournaments between different groups across the nation, drawing the interest of business leaders, sports lovers and entrepreneurs to their doorstep, the ‘Game of Kings’ as it is commonly referred to, every year pulls a crowd who believes in the superiority of the game.
This year’s competition which started on March 13, 2019 had both Nigerian and foreign teams compete in five main cups, namely; the Silver Cup, Open Cup, Oba of Lagos Cup, Low Cup and Majekodunmi Cup.
