Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is at the centre of an amazing transfer saga. Arsenal have agreed a club-record £60m deal with Borussia Dortmund for the striker and agreed personal terms with the 28-year-old. But the deal going through before Wednesday’s deadline is understood to hinge on two other transfers being completed. Dortmund will not sanction Aubameyang’s exit until they land a replacement and want to sign Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi. Belgium international Batshuayi, having been used as a back-up striker at Stamford Bridge this season, is keen on a loan move to the Bundesliga club ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
Chelsea are willing to let the 24-year-old go but they also want a replacement in before sanctioning his exit. And Antonio Conte is keen on Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, who has barely featured at the Emirates this season and is eager to move on. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger does not want to sell Giroud to a Premier League rival but may have no choice.
Dortmund are adamant that Aubameyang will stay put if they can’t bring in another striker and, if Chelsea don’t sign Giroud, then their top target Batshuayi will not be allowed to join the German club.
