Toby Alderweireld will not feature for Tottenham against Juventus, Mauricio Pochettino has revealed. Spurs’ manager, though, did say Jan Vertonghen is ready for the Huddersfield game on Saturday afternoon having missed the Premier League win against Crystal Palace and the FA victory over Rochdale. Alderweireld, however, is continuing to recover from a hamstring problem suffered last week.
“We need to be cautious with Toby,” Pochettino said. “I think still we need to assess every day. I don’t believe he can be ready for Juventus. But I’m happy because Jan is back again and maybe he is available for tomorrow to play against Huddersfield.” Asked if he will play against David Wagner’s side with one eye on the Champions League, Pochettino was adamant Saturday is all he is thinking about. “That for us is the most important game. It’s an important three points for the battle for the top four.
“We cannot think of the game after. We need to be focused and ready to compete because it will be tough. Huddersfield are in a position where they need points too.” Tottenham welcome Juventus to Wembley on Wednesday for the second leg of their last 16 encounter having drawn 2-2 in Turin.
