Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho expects Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng to join before the transfer deadline, a report claims. Sport Bild claimed yesterday that United have turned their attentions to Boateng after a move for Barcelona’s Yerry Mina fell through after a row over agent fees for the Colombia defender.
The report suggested United are in negotiations for the Bayern defender and are hoping to get a £44million deal for Boateng over the line before Thursday’s transfer deadline. Bild reported earlier on Wednesday that the German international personally phoned United boss Jose Mourinho to inform him that he is not interested in a summer move to Old Trafford. However, BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone now reports that Mourinho expects Boateng to join United despite the previous difficulties getting the deal over the line.
Stone tweeted: “Was told earlier today that @ManUtd highly unlikely to get Jerome Boateng but since been told player still keen if he feels Utd really want him. “Jose thinks it can be done. Were talking loan. Bayern wanted straight sale.”
