The Chairman of Association of Cross River State Local Government Pensioners (CRSLGP), Mr Bassey Okosin has said that the commissioner for Finance Mr Asuquo Ekpenyong jnr lied over payment of pensioners in the State. Addressing a press conference today (Tuesday), Mr Okosin said, Commissioner has said that the bailout funds and the Paris Club Refund were used among others in the payment of arrears and gratuity of pensioners in the state. “I speak on good authority that up till today not even a dime has been paid to any local government pensioner in the name of pension arrears nor gratuity from the bailout nor Paris Club Refund”
He said the group made several efforts to have audience with the government but to no avail, “All efforts made in this direction have been ignored by all the relevant agencies of government. “About 600 names of local government pensioners that were omitted by the consultant during the 2016 personnel audit exercise is still outstanding. “This was deliberate to enable the consultant collect their percentages which was supposed to be based on savings made from the exercise. According to him, the elderly men and women were deprived of their pension for a period ranging between two to six months as a result of that exercise.
