Since assumption of duty in November 2015, till date. he has created a profound impact to the National Eye Centre and humanity at large.

Manpower development and Training, as one of the key mandates of the centre, is keenly being adhered to in order to produce highly skilled Ophthalmologists and other eye care service personnel .
The training programmes that are being run in the centre on annual basis are :

  • Residency training.
  • Training of trainers in IOL Microsurgery
  •  Community Eye Health (CEH) course.
  • Post-Basic Ophthalmic Nursing course.
  • Ophthalmic Instrument maintenance Technicians course.
  • Optical Dispensing Technicians course
  • Primary Eye Care Training(PECT).
  • Advance Diploma in Community Ophthalmic nursing (ADCON)
  • Cataract Tracers (Cataract surgical Rate Workers) course.
  • Training of Trainer in SIC Microsurgery.
  • INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT.
  • Procurement of Alcon Posterior Vitrectomy Machine and Accessories
  • Purchase of a set of Optical Machine.
  • Completion of construction of 50 bed patients relations transit camp.
  • Provision of adequate global information linkage telemedicine, enhanced service delivery and quality Medicare.
  • Rehabilitation and repairs of dilapidated structures.
  • Rehabilitation of Hospital building.
  • Purchase of project vehicle.
  • Free medical outreach programme.
  • Rehabilitation and repairs of facilities.
  • Research in Ophthalmology, as part of the mandate of the National Eye Centre.

The need for the establishment of the Hospital cannot be far fetched from the revelation of a WHO statistics that about 1 million Nigerians were blind, two-thirds of whom can either be cured or prevented from going blind.
